Hi, I’m Tara

I am grateful you have found your way here. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and I completed my Master of Education in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia. I understand the value of being accompanied in both our pain and our joy

You may desire to live your life with a sense of confidence, purpose, and connection with others, but difficult life experiences have lead you to build walls for protection and safety.

You may be feeling…

Lost

Alone

Stuck

Anxious

Confused

Frustrated

angry

Overwhelmed

Panicked

Low

Shame

Sad

Depressed

Grief

Numb

You may be feeling dissatisfied with parts of your life or in your relationships. A part of you might desire to let others in, while another part of you is fearful of getting hurt. At some point, you may have begun asking yourself how do I know I can trust what I am feeling, or if it is real. It might be that you are aware of a need for boundaries in your current relationships and unsure of how to set them. Part of you might be longing for change, but another part may be fearful of the unknown. You might want to develop a strong sense of self and to grow your connection with yourself and others.

I am deeply grateful each time I am invited to accompany another as they reconnect with their truest self that may have been hiding underneath their trauma, suffering, guilt, or shame, and I am honoured to witness the emergence of clarity and understanding, connection, and empowerment. We can work together to help you bring a greater sense of control, satisfaction, and ease into your life.

My Story

As early as my teenage years, I can remember feeling called to do this work. It makes sense…growing up with family who experienced complex trauma as children, and then my own experience with losing a parent at a young age.

Through my own experiences in individual and couples counselling, I recognize feeling seen, understood, and accompanied as being necessary for undoing our feelings of aloneness and allowing for healing, repair, nervous system rewiring & regulation, and staying connected to ourselves. It is through my training and my own experiences in counselling that I have been rewiring my nervous system and healing…you are not alone, I see you.

Prior to becoming a counsellor, I offered support to children, youth, and adults in various capacities, including as an Educational Assistant and Volunteer with the Crisis and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC. I support individuals struggling with grief & loss, life transitions, self-worth, stress and anxiety, depression, trauma and complex trauma, and relationship concerns. I am passionate about working with individuals looking to connect to their intuition and learn to trust themselves, to understand and shift old patterns that are no longer serving them, to explore their internal experience, to heal through inner child work, and/or desire personal growth.

In my personal life, I am a wife and a mom to IVF twin girls and our cat. I am a homebody and introvert, and equally love exploring new places. I’m loud and outgoing with my safe people. I love camping, patio season, going for walks in nature, and spending time with my family and friends.

My Therapeutic Approach

My practice is trauma-informed and rooted in attachment theory, neuroscience, and relational, experiential, and somatic-based interventions. When we experience trauma, including relational injuries, it alters the neural networks in our brains, and subsequently our perceptions of ourselves in the world. As a result, we can begin to show up in our relationships with ourselves and others in ways that are no longer congruent with our most authentic selves, but reflective of our traumatic experiences. Our abilities to self-regulate and cope can become impaired and we can get stuck in patterns that developed in a time of need and no longer serve us. Often, through trauma or injury, we can become disconnected from parts of ourselves that hold power to support our healing.

In our work together, my priority is to create a safe space where you feel fully welcomed, accepted, and able to begin connecting with your most authentic self. The foundation of my work with clients is in building a therapeutic relationship rooted in safety and connection and fostered through care, empathy, curiosity, compassion, openness, and authenticity. Through feeling safely accompanied you can begin to gain new insight, understand your barriers, embody new perceptions and experiences, re-pattern your nervous system, create new neural pathways, develop new ways of regulating and coping, and reconnect with parts of you that still need healing.

From a place of deep care and respect for my clients, I continue to further develop my understanding of the unique challenges experienced by each client and to offer client-specific interventions to support healing and growth.
